Description from the seller

Description

The bronze statue of the Dancing Faun is a faithful reproduction of one of the most iconic masterpieces of ancient art, discovered in Pompeii and now preserved at the National Archaeological Museum of Naples.

The sculpture depicts a dancing faun, a symbol of fertility and abundance in Greco-Roman culture. Its dynamic posture and joyful expression convey a sense of freedom and vitality that has fascinated viewers for centuries. The figure embodies movement and joie de vivre, characteristic traits of the faun— a mythological being associated with nature and the celebrations in honor of Dionysus.

This bronze sculpture was produced using the lost-wax casting technique and created from a mold taken from the original statue in the early 20th century by the historic Chiurazzi Foundry of Naples. Beyond monumental works, the Chiurazzi Foundry was renowned for producing high-quality reproductions of sculptures from major museums, supplying the refined “souvenir” market for Grand Tour travelers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Characteristics

Material: Bronze, lost-wax casting

Dimensions: 85 × 35 × 35 cm

Weight: 10 kg

Patina: The color of the patina is achieved by heating the bronze over fire and applying nitric acid and copper by hand with a brush

Production: Handcrafted in Italy
