Waterman Ideal 52 fountain pen with a celuloid body and cap and a gold central band, 13.3 cm long and 1.2 cm in diameter, dating from the early 20th century, in good used condition and in working order.
Description from the seller
This Waterman 52 is in very good condition for a historical pen from the early 20th century, fully preserving its original character and functionality.
The body and the cap, made of ebonite, show a uniform natural patina, with an elegant dark brown hue resulting from the material's natural oxidation over time. No cracks, fissures, or structural deformations are observed. The original ebonite threads are in good condition and screw on correctly, ensuring a firm and precise closure. The signs of use are light and in keeping with its age, adding authenticity without affecting the integrity of the piece.
The central gold ring, with visible contrast, remains structurally solid, showing only light, even surface wear. The markings remain legible, reinforcing its authenticity.
The Waterman’s Ideal nib in solid 9-carat gold, engraved Waterman’s Ideal – England, is well aligned, with no cracks or deformations, and the tip intact and properly formed. It stands out especially for its flexibility, allowing a clear variation in line thickness with controlled pressure, a quality highly valued by collectors and users of expressive writing. The distinctive heart-shaped vent hole is clean and well defined.
The filling lever maintains proper alignment and smooth operation. The filling system functions adequately (the internal sac inspected or replaced as part of restoration), enabling functional use with fountain pen inks.
Overall, it’s an authentic Waterman 52, well-preserved and balanced, with an elegant presence, noble materials, and a 9K flexible nib that makes it an excellent choice for both collection and careful use.
