Alfonso Castrigno | Artistic Biography
Born in 1959 in Corato (BA) Alfonso Castrigno is a self-taught artist whose painterly research represents a fascinating bridge between artisanal experience and metaphysical inquiry. His training did not take place within the walls of academies, but on scaffolds restoring ancient decorations on ceilings, a job that allowed him to internalize the secrets of light and classical composition directly from the great masters of the past.
Masters and Influences
His aesthetics are the result of a constant dialogue with the giants of modern art:
The search for color and spirituality in Kandinsky.
The synthesis of forms and the compositional solidity of Cézanne.
The symbolic, precious, dreamlike atmosphere of Moreau.
The fragmentation of space and the expressive force of Picasso.
In addition to these influences, there is a deep affinity with metaphysical painters, evident in the sense of temporal suspension and silence that pervades his works.
Path and Exhibitions
Active mainly in Puglia, Castrigno has participated in numerous group exhibitions, often choosing direct contact with the public through outdoor displays. This approach reflects his vision of art as a living element, capable of interacting with urban and daily spaces just as the decorations he once restored did.
Poetics
Today his production stands out for the ability to fuse the plasticity of the nude and sculpture with abstract and vibrant settings. Each canvas by Castrigno is a "vision" where reality breaks down to make room for dream and chromatic harmony, paying homage to the great European artistic tradition through an intimate and contemporary language.
Description of the Work:
"Curtain"
This fascinating work captures the viewer and transports them to a dimension where the boundary between landscape and psyche dissolves. At the center of the composition emerges a human profile with classic, almost statue-like features, seemingly born from the very matter of the surrounding world. It is not a simple portrait, but an ethereal presence that surveys an interior horizon.
Stylistic Analysis
The painting stands out for a delicate yet deep lyrical color. The palette plays with harmonies of woodland greens, cerulean blues, and hints of yellow that evoke a morning light filtered through fog.
Technique: The brushstrokes are fluid and blended, giving the work that evanescent character that invites slow contemplation.
Composition: The vertical division and the interweaving of organic forms create a suspended dynamism, typical of contemporary abstract surrealism.
Why choose it?
With its dimensions of 50x40 cm, this canvas is the ideal complement for those seeking a work capable of furnishing with elegance and mystery. It is a piece that does not shout, but whispers, perfect for environments that require a touch of serenity and intellectual introspection.
