Description from the seller
MANIFESTO EXHIBITION 'WARHOL VERSUS DE CHIRICO', ROME, CAPITOLINE HILL, HALL OF THE HORATII AND CURIAII, 20 NOVEMBER 1982 – 31 JANUARY 1983 - WITH FRAME
Original manifesto of the Warhol towards De Chirico exhibition, held in Rome between 1982 and 1983. The exhibition, organized by the City of Rome, Department of Culture, in collaboration with the Giorgio De Chirico Foundation, was curated by Achille Bonito Oliva and conceived as a homage to De Chirico on the anniversary of his death. The exhibition brought Giorgio De Chirico's metaphysical painting into dialogue with Andy Warhol's pop art.
Warhol and De Chirico, although belonging to different artistic movements (Pop Art and Metaphysical Painting), are juxtaposed for their ability to create works that explore the loss of time, identity, and meaning, with Warhol reworking De Chirico's metaphysical themes through the lens of Pop Art, creating a dialogue between seemingly distant but highly connected visions.
The manifesto truly reflects the idea that Warhol reinterpreted the “metaphysical spaces” and the enigmatic atmospheres of De Chirico through the language of pop culture — seriality, iconic images, and repetition — highlighting how metaphysical elements can be found, in a different form, in Warhol’s work.
An ideal piece for high-end decor or for collectors of historical posters from museum exhibitions.
