Kantcho Kanev (1957, Obretenik, Bulgaria) is an artist known for his expressive, colorful paintings. He has lived and worked in The Hague since 1991. His style is characterized by a dynamic and abstract approach to reality, in which he combines vibrant colors with powerful forms and lines. This gives his work an energetic and emotional charge. Through the use of abstract elements, he creates depth and movement, with influences from both figurative and abstract art visible. The use of color and symbols draws the viewer directly into Kanev’s world: a mix of old Bulgaria and modern life in Western Europe.
Beautiful monotype screen prints created by Kantcho Kanev. The pieces are truly exceptionally well printed. The artist has alternated delicate transparent and rich ink layers, and has incorporated various structural elements into the screen prints. By hand, the artist added additional details during the printing runs, so that hardly any two are the same. Kantcho Kanev made the monotypes on beautifully thick hand-pulled paper, and the pieces are framed in very fine and exclusive handmade frames!
Kantcho has, during the period he lived in the Netherlands, won many prizes and received various commissions. The most well-known of these are the designs he created in 1998 and 1999 for Amnesty International, as well as his brand refresh in 1997 for Douwe Egberts.
