Victorian-era mechanical telescopic pencil plated in gold with a mineral stone setting, 9 cm long and 0.5 cm in diameter, originating from the United Kingdom, in good used condition and in working order.
Description from the seller
Antique telescoping mechanical pencil, also known as the 'propelling pencil', a typical instrument of the 19th century, particularly the Victorian era, often made (as in this case) of metal plated in gold or silver and finely decorated.
The object features intricate incised floral decorations, typical of Rococo, Late Baroque, or Art Nouveau styles.
The pencil operates with a telescoping mechanism, which means the inner section extends to expose and advance the graphite lead (as seen from the small separate component in the image).
The terminal part (opposite the tip) may be omitted and features a mounted amethyst.
This is an object of extraordinary refinement and elegance.
