Description from the seller
Beautiful full-length male portrait, oil on canvas signed Ciro Pace (Naples, 1964) depicting Giovanni Grimani, a member of the Venetian aristocracy of the seventeenth century, captured in a solemn pose in accordance with the official Baroque iconography. The figure wears a wide red cloak with a decorated edge and a white collar, and is shown standing, with one hand resting on a surface draped in red cloth on which decorative elements appear.
The dark and neutral background enhances the figure through careful use of chiaroscuro and an accurate rendering of drapery, faithfully recalling the composition and lighting arrangement of Bernardo Strozzi's original, today housed at the Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice (ca. 1640).
Complimentary frame; therefore any complaint about possible imperfections will not be accepted.
