Description from the seller
LUIGI VERONESI (1908-1998) - GEOMETRIC ABSTRACT COMPOSITION - SCREENPRINT, ARTIST'S PROOF
(the 1960s–1970s)
Details:
Artist: Luigi Veronesi (Milan, 1908 – 1998)
Technique: Screen printing on paper.
Edition: Artist's Proof (A.P.)
Sign: Firmata with a pencil at the bottom right.
Era: Probably the 1960s – early 1970s (stylistic dating)
Sheet dimensions: 49 × 34.5 cm
Image dimensions: approx. 22 × 16 cm
Description of the work
Abstract composition with a rigorously geometric setup, constructed through the intersection of circles, arcs, and diagonal lines. The work presents a dynamic and balanced structure, in which the circular shapes overlap, creating depth and movement, while the measured use of color — with green areas and a pronounced blue diagonal accent — introduces an element of visual tension and rhythmic composition.
Screenprinting fully reflects the poetics of Luigi Veronesi, based on the relationship between form, color, and space, and testifies to a mature phase of his abstract exploration, in which the geometric language becomes essential yet extremely refined.
Style and context:
Luigi Veronesi was a central figure in twentieth-century Italian abstraction, close to the experiences of the Bauhaus, Constructivism, and European concretism. Also active as a graphic designer, photographer, and stage designer, he developed a coherent and pioneering research on geometric abstraction, contributing decisively to the renewal of the visual language in Italy.
The work is stylistically linked to the graphic production of the 1960s to the early 1970s, a period in which Veronesi produced numerous serigraphs characterized by mature geometric structures, formal balance, and a structurally oriented use of color.
His works are part of important public and private collections, including the Museo del Novecento in Milan and the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome.
Condition status
Good overall condition
There are light spots and foxing on the paper, consistent with its age, mainly outside the image area.
There is also a tear along the edge of the sheet, easily concealed with a passe-partout and not interfering with the depicted area.
Overall, the work presents well and is easily enhanced with proper framing.
Frame not included
Shipping
Tracked shipment, professional packaging (the artwork will be shipped in a custom-made wooden crate to preserve its integrity during transport).
