Description from the seller
This work is an oil painting on canvas by Jacob Kuijper and is signed in the lower left. Kuijper was the son-in-law of Jan Sluijters. He was educated at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam, where he studied from about 1937 to 1940. Over the course of his career Kuijper received several distinctions, including the Willink van Collen Prize in 1947 and the Thérèse van Duijl-Schwartze Prize in 1953. From 1973 to 1984 he was professor of Free Painting at the Rijksakademie.
Kuijper typically worked toward drawings he made during walks along the Waal; he did the painting itself indoors. Although he is often regarded as a landscape painter, humans are central in his body of work. As Kuijper himself said: 'I try to convey the atmosphere in which we all live, its color, the light, the sky, the space, and I try to do so in a way that always relates to humans. So even if it is as modest as it may be, sometimes a person appears here and there, sometimes no person appears at all, only small boats or a digger, such things that point to the presence of humans in our beautiful atmosphere.'
Dimensions: 40 x 50 cm
Dimensions with frame: 43 x 53 cm
Viewing is, of course, possible. Additionally, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we collaborate with restorers from the professional organization: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you wish to make use of this service, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
