ABOUT THE WORK: The Lemon Tree is part of the pictorial tradition of the Renaissance and Baroque, where the human figure was typically depicted in an intimate dialogue with nature or with symbols laden with meaning. This photograph reinterprets that relationship from a contemporary perspective, through a carefully constructed composition that, nevertheless, conveys a sense of naturalness and stillness.

The female figure emerges among the branches of a lemon tree that envelop her almost as if they were part of her own body. The fruits and the leaves act as symbolic elements, creating a direct connection between the model and the surroundings. The painterly background and the texture of the dress evoke a timeless atmosphere, while the black corset introduces a visual tension between the organic and the imposed, between softness and structure.

Rather than representing a concrete scene, the work builds a contemplative space where light, gaze, and color dialogue with the language of classical painting. It is a staged portrait that does not seek to reproduce the past, but to reformulate it with contemporary sensitivity and aesthetic precision, inviting the spectator to a slow and introspective observation.

Seller's Story

Lídia Vives is a visual artist and fine art photographer born in Lleida and based in Barcelona. Her work fuses pictorial tradition, symbolic storytelling and contemporary fashion aesthetics, creating images that go beyond visual beauty to reveal hidden layers of meaning. She is known for hiding secrets in her photographs — enigmatic symbols, subtle narrative details, and recurring elements such as bees. These visual mysteries have become her signature, offering viewers the chance to decode personal and universal themes embedded in each composition. With influences from Renaissance and Baroque painting, Vives constructs her photographs with meticulous art direction, often integrating custom-made props, mixed media, and self-portraiture. Her imagery balances the timeless and the surreal, evoking a sense of suspended reality. Her work has been exhibited in museums, galleries, and international art fairs, and featured in publications including Vogue Italia and Esquire. She has collaborated with institutions and brands such as RTVE and Penguin Random House, and her pieces are part of private collections around the world.
