This is an authentic Japanese Tsugaru-nuri (津軽塗) three-tier jubako, finished in the highly decorative Bakazuri (唐塗 / バカ塗り) technique, a hallmark of traditional lacquerware from Aomori Prefecture.

The exterior displays the characteristic dense, layered marbled pattern in deep brown, amber, red, and black tones, achieved through repeated layers of lacquer and polishing. Each tier aligns precisely, demonstrating careful craftsmanship. The interior is finished in smooth vermilion red lacquer, typical of high-quality jubako intended for celebratory or formal use.

The original outer storage box bears a Japanese label reading 「高級 津軽塗」 (“High-grade Tsugaru lacquer”), confirming the regional technique and quality classification.

This type of jubako is traditionally used for New Year cuisine (osechi) or as a refined decorative storage piece. Today, Tsugaru-nuri works are also highly appreciated by collectors of Japanese folk craft and lacquer art for their durability and bold visual depth.
