Biography
Having developed a passion for landscape painting from a very young age, thanks to a scholarship he was able to attend the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna under the guidance of Antonio Puccinelli.
He illustrated the first edition of Myricae.
At twenty, he moved to Naples, enrolling in the Academy and forming friendships with Michetti, Dalbono, Moretti and, later, with Ragione and Migliaro.
In 1881 he participated in the Neapolitan Promotrice with Verde, where he was also present in 1888 with Verso sera, in ’99 with Di mattina, in 1904 with Primavera imminente and Mattina, in 1915-’16 with Tempo bigio and Da Mergellina, and in ’22 with Nevicata, Sul terrazzo and Meta di Sorrento.
In 1885 he was present at the Salon des Artistes in Paris and, two years later, at the National Exhibition of Venice with Spiaggia di Portici, Per l’orto and In campagna.
He sent some works to Milan in 1884, 1889 and 1890, and in 1906, when he exhibited two sculptures.
He became an honorary professor at the Naples Academy in 1902.
In the last thirty years of activity, he preferred to organize solo exhibitions in Neapolitan galleries interested in 19th-century painting.
Attilio Pratella died in Naples in 1949.

The artwork has been cleaned by an expert restorer, and a recent conservation-restoration was carried out.
Light signs of the passage of time,
The present frame has been adapted to the painting and is coeval with the work; it is included as a gift. The frame shows signs of age and defects.
