Description from the seller
Luis Antonio González
(Artisanal materials crafted by the artist himself)
In La cara oculta, Luis Antonio González builds an image of deep symbolic charge in which the human face ceases to be identity and becomes territory, a surface of revelation. The work does not represent an individual, but a condition: that which hides beneath the skin, what is not shown, what is not named.
The frontal, direct treatment of the portrait reinforces a sense of confrontation. The organic mask that covers the face functions as an interior map, a psychological and spiritual cartography where memory, wound, instinct, and transformation are inscribed. There is no gratuitous ornament: every line, every blot, and every texture fulfills a symbolic and structural function within the composition.
The use of handmade materials created by the artist themselves elevates both the conceptual and material value of the work. The painting is not built solely as an image, but as a unique physical object: the material takes the lead, generating relief, density, and presence. This process turns the surface into a living body, coherent with the work’s discourse: the skin as archive, as the space where experience is deposited.
From a contemporary perspective, The Hidden Face engages with universal themes such as fragmented identity, the duality between the visible and the hidden, and the tension between the human and the symbolic. The hybrid aesthetics—between the ritual, the archetypal, and the contemporary—places the piece in a solid, recognizable line of work with a strong artistic personality.
For the collector, this work represents an exceptional opportunity to acquire a unique piece, with a clear discourse, authentic materiality, and a strong conceptual charge. It is a work that functions both as a central piece in a private collection and in curatorial contexts linked to contemporary figurative art, identity, and symbolism.
The hidden face is not a portrait: it is a statement. A work that does not seek to please, but to endure. An image that is not looked at is confronted.
The artwork is shipped in a transport tube to ensure maximum safety and integrity of the piece.
