Industrial decorative pulley from the Rotterdam harbour, likely dating to the first quarter of the 20th century, made of oak wood with forged iron components; 39 cm high, 13 cm wide, 12 cm deep and weighing about 3 kg.
Description from the seller
Very beautiful and decorative pulley. This industrial pulley is probably from the port of Rotterdam. The pulley likely dates from the first quarter of the 20th century and is (with eye and rope bracket) 39 cm high, 13 cm wide, 12 cm deep, and weighs about 3 kg.
The pulley is still 100% original and looks as if it were taken straight from an old harbour scene. In every interior this harbour tool is a very decorative item and conversation piece, but it can also be used to hang kitchen utensils, or a coat rack, or a lamp.
What makes this pulley beautiful are the two wooden wheels, and also the presence of the bracket over which the rope is guided (see photos). The pulley has two wooden rollers that still turn smoothly around the iron axle. The pulley is thus still functional and all joining materials, such as the center bolt, the screws and the thick rivets are still original (see photos).
Very beautiful is the grain of the wood, the finish on it and the wear from use. The wood is a bit antique-brown. It is probably ash or oak, but that is hard to say with certainty. The wooden rollers and the wrought-iron elements give this pulley a atmospheric and engaging appearance! The wood and the weathered metal have been conserved and have a nice sheen. The pulley remains very sturdy and stable.
This pulley is a very beautiful decorative object, but a lamp can also be hung from it, or another item. It could even still be used simply as a pulley! This piece of industrial heritage is certainly a conversation piece!
The pulley is expertly packed and insured for shipping.
