Description from the seller
In the series Traces of Thought, Eekhout explores the inner landscape of the human mind. Horizons, seas, rivers and fields of color appear not as physical places, but as mental images — traces of thoughts, memories, and emotions.
At times, words surface within the image, like fragments of a thought, a memory, or a feeling. Through layered painting techniques and silkscreen printing, a visual language emerges that allows space for stillness and reflection. This bright blue abstract landscape painting is a trace: of a thought, a moment of contemplation, an inner landscape.
With Traces of Thought, the artist invites the viewer into a state of quiet reflection. The works become a meeting point between the inner landscape of the artist and that of the viewer.

About the artist:
Elise Eekhout is a visual artist whose work brings painting and language together in a layered, nuanced dialogue. Inspired by literature, memory, and landscape, she creates paintings in which text and image coexist—sometimes clearly present, sometimes subtly embedded within the surface. Letters function both as carriers of meaning and as visual forms, dissolving as soon as they are read.
Working primarily with acrylic paint and silkscreen printing, Eekhout builds richly layered surfaces in which words are woven into fields of color, texture, and gesture. The texts do not dominate the image but become part of its rhythm, allowing the painting to shift between reading and seeing. As the viewer spends time with the work, different layers reveal themselves.
Themes of memory, transformation, and humanity’s relationship with nature recur throughout her practice. Eekhout’s paintings invite slow looking and quiet reflection, offering collectors works that unfold gradually and continue to resonate within a space over time.
