Karel Appel's Running Horse, a 1979 lithography in a limited HC edition, multicoloured Cobra portrait measuring 55 × 75 cm, signed in graphite lower right and framed under non-reflective museum glass, in excellent condition and sold with the frame.
Description from the seller
‘Running Horse’, a lithography by Karel Appel published in 1979.
Signed and numbered in graphite in the lower right margin of the sheet; edition in the lower right. This edition has the unique ‘HC’ numbering.
In art numbering, HC stands for Hors Commerce, a French term translating to "not for commerce" or "not for sale." These prints, often marked H.C., are identical in quality to the regular edition but were historically reserved for the artist, printer, or for exhibition purposes, making them rare and often highly valuable.
Dimensions of artwork: 55 x 75 cm
Dimensions of frame: 70 x 90 cm
The artwork is in very good condition and framed professionally in non-reflective museum glass.
This lithograph is a beautiful abstract composition full of vibrant colors. It is a very nice example of Northern European expressionism. The combination of the bright colors makes this artwork a truly unique and exclusive piece. Karel Appel is one of the most important exponents of European expressionism. In 1948, he founded the Cobra movement with other well-known artists like Corneille, Carl Henning Pedersen, Asger Jorn, and Pierre Alechinsky.
NOTE:
The artwork can be picked up or shipped. If the buyer chooses shipping, the frame will be excluded to prevent damage to the lithography during transit. Instead, the litho will be carefully packaged in a sturdy tube. If the buyer opts to pick up the artwork, it can be collected in Copenhagen, Denmark. By bidding on this item, the buyer acknowledges and agrees to these conditions.
