Description from the seller
Giuseppe De Gregorio (Spoleto, 1920 - ibid., 2007), Garden, oil on canvas, 50 x 70 cm, dimensions including frame 73.5 x 93.5 cm, signed lower left.
Giuseppe De Gregorio was born in 1920 in Spoleto. Despite his father being a painter and his grandfather teaching painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Catania, Giuseppe approached painting through a highly individual path, developing his skills in his hometown under a group of Umbrian masters: Gerardo Dottori, Leoncillo Leonardi, and Alberto Burri. He began exhibiting in 1947, participating in group and solo shows, and in 1948 he won the Orvieto City Prize. He became a leading representative of the Spoleto Group, also known as the Group of Six, founded in 1953 with young artists such as Filippo Marignoli, Giannetto Orsini, Ugo Rambaldi, Piero Raspi, and Bruno Toscano. He participated in important exhibitions in Italy and abroad, such as the Quadriennale Nazionale d'Arte in Rome, the Venice Biennale, and the Fiorino Prize in Florence.
