Description from the seller
Moto Guzzi 1947 “Airone Turismo” 247cc OHV single - frame # 26656 engine # 72678
In 1932 Moto Guzzi had decided to move into the lightweight market. At first this was the 175cc class that enjoyed various advantages in taxation and driving licence regulation, but when these were abolished the public interest in the 175cc class waned and Guzzi decided to increase the displacement of its little P175. At first the step was made to a 232cc machine but in 1937 the PL was introduced with 247cc capacity and a frame consisting of tubular and pressed steel elements. Later versions of this model were among others the Egretta (egret) and the Ardetta (small heron). These models had a three speed gearbox and in 1939 a modernised version was marketed, the 4-speed Airone (heron) that would become very popular and would be produced up to 1957. The Airone was available in Turismo and Sport versions. The Sport had aluminium Borrani rims instead of chromed steel ones, 25mm instead of 22mm carburettor, sports handlebars, higher compression ratio and different camshaft. This resulted in a 12hp power output @ 5,200rpm, 2.5hp more than that of the Turismo.
In 1947 the Airone was fitted with “upside down” hydraulic forks designed by Carlo Guzzi and with hydraulic rear dampers. At the end of 1948 the model got a new aluminium cylinder head assembly with enclosed valve gear. The reliable Airone was a very successful model for the Guzzi factory, in all -including the military version- more than 28,000 were produced.
This Airone is in running condition. She has been part of a static collection for a long time. An overall service is advisable.
Worldwide transport can be arranged at cost.

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
