A pair of traditional Japanese Hina dolls from the early Showa period (1930–1940), with male and female figures seated on textile bases, wearing richly decorated garments, the female holding a ceremonial crown and folding fan while the male carries a shaku baton, made of composite and originating from Japan, dimensions 50 cm wide by 30 cm high by 20 cm deep, in very good condition and packaged with the original box.
Description from the seller
This lot features a pair of traditional Japanese dolls (Hina dolls), believed to have been created during the early Showa period (early 20th century).
Both the male and female dolls display calm, elegant expressions and finely balanced facial features, reflecting the careful handcraft of skilled Japanese artisans.
Their garments are made from richly decorated traditional woven textiles, incorporating gold-thread patterns and harmonious color combinations that convey the refined dignity characteristic of classical Hina dolls.
The female doll wears an elaborate ceremonial crown and holds a folding fan, while the male doll carries a ritual baton (shaku), clearly indicating an authentic and formal Hina doll style.
Each figure is seated on a textile-covered base, offering stability and a well-composed presentation suitable for display.
During the early Showa period, materials that are now considered extremely costly were used generously.
In addition, these dolls exhibit fine and highly intricate craftsmanship that would be difficult to reproduce with the same level of detail today.
For these reasons, this pair is regarded not only as a seasonal decoration but also as a valuable work of traditional Japanese craftsmanship and art.
In recent years, Japanese dolls made using such traditional techniques have become increasingly rare.
This pair represents a highly desirable collectible for those who appreciate Japanese culture, history, and fine craftsmanship.
Minor signs of age-related wear may be present, consistent with vintage handcrafted items; however, the overall condition is good.
Please refer to the photographs for a detailed assessment of condition.
