Description from the seller
Put this magnificent ancient print from the famous Éditions du Chêne (Paris, 1943) up for sale. It is a piece with an incredible charm, far from soulless modern prints.
What makes this print unique:
• Historical edition: Dated 1939, this impression on thick art paper testifies to the know-how of French printers during the Occupation. The color rendering remains very beautiful and faithful to Matisse's spirit.
• Integrated signature: The signature "Henri Matisse" (corresponding to the original work) is inscribed on the plate, bottom right.
• The charm of antiquity: The paper has taken on an authentic patina with time. The slight foxing visible on the paper testifies to its more than 80 years of history and guarantees that this is indeed a vintage edition.
• Original document: The plate retains its original protection sheet (serpente) with the title and date printed. It’s the detail that makes the difference for a discerning buyer.
Presentation:
The work is framed and matted, ready to be installed. It is a very decorative object, with a strong visual presence thanks to its contrast of black, green, and warm tones.
