AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Marcello Scuffi (Tizzana, Pistoia, 1948 – Quarrata, 2021) was a self-taught Tuscan painter, whose art was described by Vittorio Sgarbi as the expression of a 'modern neo-Italianism', heir to 20th-century masters such as Carrà, Rosai and Morandi, but purged of any frills.

He began painting in 1970, after seeing Carrà's Il Pino sul mare, having left his studies in the seminary. To support himself, he takes on various trades, but painting soon becomes his sole profession, pursued with consistency and without yielding to fashion.

Her painting, timeless, ranges from landscapes to still lifes with an unmistakable hand. She is known for bold compositional cuts and a suspended, hushed atmosphere, as in Marina (the pontil) (1980), where modern elements fuse with a Giottesque sense of classicism.

Active since 1970, he has held more than thirty solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group shows. He has worked for a long time in Brussels (1977, 1981), and his work is recognized in Italy, France, Belgium and Switzerland.
