Description from the seller
Formento + Formento
I thought he was special.
In this photograph, Formento + Formento build a scene charged with silent tension and emotional ambiguity. The female figure, isolated in the narrow space of the car, fixes the viewer with a direct gaze that suggests intimacy but also distance. The large glass in the foreground becomes a visual barrier, a pop object that interrupts human contact and introduces a subtle sense of irony.
The cinematographic aesthetic, typical of the duo, evokes the American imagery of consumption, desire, and loneliness. The title I Thought He Were Special adds a narrative dimension, evoking a barely hinted disappointment, like a fragment of dialogue suspended in midair. The work invites the viewer to question what was promised, what was lost, and what remains in the gaze.
