In short, ambrotype is an early form of photography where a photograph is created by placing a glass negative on a dark background. Introduced in the 1850s, it is commonly called a 'collodion positive' because a positive image is produced on glass using a variation of the collodion process on a wet plate. This method requires the use of silver and collodion to capture the image, and the photograph created with it is everlasting.
