Description from the seller
Nezumi Tsumi Dosei Koro ねずみ摘み銅製香炉(ねずみつまみどうせいこうろ)
The origin of incense burners can be traced back to ancient China.
They were introduced to Japan together with the arrival of Buddhism and became established as important ritual implements used before Buddhist altars to burn incense, purify spaces, and cleanse both body and mind.
From the Muromachi period onward, with the development of tea ceremony culture, incense burners also evolved as artistic incense utensils used to adorn tea gatherings.
This piece features a solid three-legged base, with decorative leaves extending upward along the body, and a mouse positioned at the top.
An inscription is present on the base; however, it cannot be clearly identified, and its details remain unknown.
The box is finished in red lacquer, indicating the rarity attributed to this piece.
