Description from the seller
Title: Lloret
School: European School (20th century)
Author: Ferré i Andreu (20th century)
Style: Post-impressionist landscaping
Technique: Oil on panel
Ferré i Andreu was a painter active in the 20th century, mainly linked to the landscape genre. His work is characterized by a loose and expressive brushwork, with particular interest in capturing the Mediterranean light and the chromatic strength of the natural surroundings. He worked coastal and rural landscapes, endowing them with a personal and dynamic vision, close to Expressionism and Post-Impressionism.
The work portrays a coastal landscape of Santa Maria de Llorell, capturing an elevated view of the Mediterranean coast. In the foreground, several pines with intense green stand out, executed with thick, gestural brushwork, contrasting with the ochre and reddish tones of the rocky earth. The sea occupies a large part of the composition, represented through a rich range of blues and greens that impart depth and movement to the scene. In the background, the cliffs unfold in diagonal planes, reinforcing the sense of perspective and dynamism. The brushwork is loose and expressive, with a clear intention to convey the atmosphere and light of the landscape rather than meticulous detail, situating the work within an expressive-expressionist landscape. The work appears signed and dated 1971.
The painting is presented in a carved, gilded wooden frame, decorative in character, with botanical motifs repeated along the entire perimeter. The gilding provides an elegant contrast to the painting's chromatic intensity and reinforces the work's visual presence.
