Apple II Europlus (QWERTY) with original expansion cards, made in Ireland around 1980, in very good condition, packaged with a replacement box, not working.
Description from the seller
This listing is for an Apple II Europlus (QWERTY version), Made in Ireland, serial number IA2S2 (No. 656686). This Apple II Europlus dates from the early 1980s (circa 1980–1981), during the golden era of early European personal computing.
// Historical background
The Apple II Europlus is the European variant of the iconic Apple II series (= rarer than US Apple II), originally introduced in the late 1970s. To meet European standards and demand, Apple manufactured these systems in Ireland, adapting them for PAL video output, local keyboards, and power requirements. The Apple II line played a pivotal role in the rise of personal computing in homes, schools, and universities across Europe, and became especially influential in education, science, and early software development. Today, original Europlus models—particularly complete systems with expansion cards—are increasingly scarce and highly regarded by collectors.
// Some details
The machine has been thoroughly cleaned, including the keyboard and keycaps, and presents well considering its age.
On the underside of the computer, an original ownership sticker is still present, indicating its provenance:
VLVU – Instituut voor Lerarenopleiding
Sectie Natuurkunde
Diemen, The Netherlands
This adds an interesting historical and educational context to the machine’s past.
// Why do I auction it?
Due to lack of time, and also because I personally prefer working on later (vintage) Macintosh systems, I am unable to continue this restoration project. The Apple II Europlus has been in my care for several years, and I sincerely hope it will find a new home with an enthusiast who can restore this beautiful machine with the care it deserves.
// Important technical notes (please read carefully)
– The computer has NOT been recapped;
– It is strongly recommended to inspect and service both the power supply and the logic board before applying power*
> Powering the system without proper refurbishment* may result in damage to original components!
Any attempt to power on this device is done entirely at the buyer’s own risk. The seller cannot be held responsible for any damage resulting from powering on the unit without prior professional inspection and servicing.
Again. Do NOT power on unless you have appropriate vintage hardware experience.
For this reason, the computer is offered as-is, untested, and not in working condition.
// Installed expansion cards
The following original cards are included:
– PAL Encoder Card (1980, Made in the USA)
For connection to a vintage television. This card must be soldered to the motherboard. The previous owner claimed it was functional, however no guarantee can be given.
– Drive Interface Card (1978, Made in the USA)
Intended for connecting two floppy disk drives.
Please note: no floppy drive is included in this lot.
– Language Card (1977, Made in the USA)
// Optional related item
A compatible external floppy disk drive (untested) is also being auctioned separately this week. This drive can be connected directly to the included drive interface card.
// Final notes
This Apple II Europlus is offered as a restoration project or display piece, suitable for experienced collectors, restorers, or museums. Please study the photographs carefully before bidding.
Approaching half a century in age, this Apple II Europlus stands as a tangible relic of the dawn of personal computing.
