AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Eugène Galien-Laloue, a French painter and engraver born in Montmartre on December 11, 1854, and who died in Chérence on April 18, 1941.

He was a student of Léon Germain Pelouse (1838-1891), a painter of the Barbizon School, under whose influence he was shaped but who did not belong to it.

To circumvent his exclusive contract with his dealer, he used pseudonyms, including Léon DUPUY. The signature used on this painting.

His work is also closely linked to the landscapes of villages in the Île-de-France countryside. In 1874, he stayed in Fontainebleau where he painted sunsets and sunrises.

Exhibited at the Carnavalet Museum in Paris and at Auvers-sur-Oise.
