Description from the seller
Title: Vase with Lilies
School: European School
Author: Vidal Rolland (1889 - 1970)
Style: Post-Impressionist / Decorative Realism
Technique: oil on canvas
The work presents a floral still life featuring a greenish-glass vase housing a lush bouquet of lilies and complementary flowers. The lilies, in white and yellow tones, are combined with reddish flowers and small violet accents, generating a balanced and luminous chromatic contrast. The background, resolved through broad and enveloping brushstrokes in greens and ochres, adds movement and depth, reinforcing the centrality of the bouquet. The brushwork is loose and expressive, with a clear decorative intention and a chromatic sensitivity typical of European Post-Impressionism of the 20th century, always maintaining a clear and harmonious figurative reading.
Author:
Vidal Rolland was an active painter during the 20th century, primarily focused on still lifes and floral compositions. His body of work is characterized by expressive use of color, a fluid brushstroke, and a marked influence from European post-Impressionist currents, combined with a decorative and balanced sensibility that lends his works freshness and elegance.
The work is accompanied by a carved and gilded wooden frame, of classical style, with relief vegetal ornamentation and a wavy molding. The frame enhances the pictorial composition and displays a patina in keeping with its age and use.
