Asger Jorn, Untitled, 1959, etching, signed by hand in a limited edition sold with frame by Galerie, measuring 60 x 50 cm including the frame (31 x 22 cm without the frame), from Denmark in the Cobra style.
Description from the seller
Asger Jorn (1914–1973) was an influential Danish painter, graphic artist, writer, and theorist, and one of the key figures within the European avant-garde of the twentieth century. He was a co-founder of the Cobra movement (1948–1951), which included artists from Copenhagen, Brussels, and Amsterdam striving for spontaneous, expressive, and experimental forms of art, often inspired by children's drawings, folk art, and primitivism. Jorn developed an energetic, free painting style in which bright colors, bold lines, and an almost anarchistic composition come together.
This work is a lively and dynamic composition in which Jorn's characteristic spontaneity and expressive energy are clearly evident. The depiction appears built from loose, almost impulsive lines in blue, red, and turquoise, spreading across a background of bright yellow. The shapes evoke associations with figures or faces but remain abstract enough to allow multiple interpretations — a typical feature of Jorn's playful, open visual language.
