Pittyvaich Special Release 2020, a 30-year-old whisky from Scotland’s Speyside aged in ex-first-fill bourbon casks, bottled as bottle number 1,624 of a 7,020-bottle production, limited to one bottle in this lot with original packaging and 70 cl at 50.8% ABV.
Description from the seller
An ultra-limited edition from the Ghost Distillery of Pittyvaich. This distillery operated for only 18 years and closed 30 years ago. Pittyvaich was aged for 30 years, with a limited production of 7,020 bottles worldwide. This bottle is number 1,624, meaning it was among the first to be bottled.
It is a collector's item, accessible only to a select few worldwide.
This elusive 1989 Pittyvaich, from the last remaining stock, is the first to be aged in ex-first-fill bourbon casks. This finely crafted finish brings an exotic and rich vanilla sweetness to the light, creamy, and fruity aromas and flavors of a lesser-known Speyside gem, previously reserved for a select few.
A ghost distillery that operated for only 18 years before falling victim to industry consolidation in 1993, Pittyvaich's buildings are long gone. Its dwindling population is as rarely seen today as the shy grouse, a bird occasionally seen in Scottish pine forests.
Nose: Sweet porridge with a drizzle of honey, but also some lime peel and just a touch of beeswax and furniture polish. There's a whiff of sour beer, a well as some eucalyptus. Finally just a whisper of chocolate truffles. Very elegant and mature.
Palate: Quite creamy and certainly pretty singular. Some faint IPA-ish quality but also Chinese liquorice, tobacco and a touch of ginger. There's whiffs of apple and citrus as well. Water brings out more orchard fruits.
Finish: Spicy followed by a lingering fruitiness
Bottles and packaging in perfect condition.
