Cosima von Bonin (born 1962 in Mombasa) ranks among the most influential German artists of the post-Kippenberger generation. Like her famous predecessor, she draws on strategies of hyper-productivity, provocation, and irony toward artistic and ideological conventions, such as feminism. She became known through collaborations with other artists, thereby expanding the role of the artist to producer, curator, and critic. Since the 1990s she has illuminated the tensions between forms, means of communication, and the commodification of art, with catalogues and texts themselves becoming creative media to question bourgeois taste in art and object fetishism.
