Description from the seller
Jizaikagi Hook Trammel Hook Seabream for Irori Fireplace
Carved in the form of a seabream, this jizaikagi trammel hook was designed for use above an irori hearth, where its adjustable mechanism allowed a cooking pot to be raised or lowered over the fire. The fish motif—especially the seabream, long associated with good fortune and celebration in Japan—adds a symbolic layer to what was originally a practical household tool. The carving highlights the rounded body, patterned scales, and expressive features, giving the piece a warm, handcrafted presence. Fitted with an iron hook and suspended by rope, it combines woodwork and metalwork in a way typical of traditional rural interiors. Measuring 29 × 10 × 15 cm and weighing 1,150 g, it functions today as both a cultural artifact and a decorative object that evokes the atmosphere of a classic Japanese hearth.
Dimensions: 11.4" x 3.9" x 5.9" / 29cm x 10cm x 15cm
