Description from the seller
Fascinating pair of oriental opium pipes dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. This set represents an excellent example of Southeast Asian metallurgical craftsmanship (probably the Golden Triangle area or southern China).
The lot consists of two distinct pieces:
Pipe 'Elephant': Characterized by a finely crafted bowl in the shape of an elephant's head, a symbol of strength, wisdom, and good fortune in Eastern cultures. The stem features an elegant curve and applied decorations.
Decorative pipe: Characterized by floral and geometric motifs created using the repoussé technique and filigree applied in relief along the shaft.
Material: solid brass with a splendid natural patina of time.
Period: Late Qing Dynasty / Republican Period (ca. 1890-1930).
Condition: Very good, considering their age. The objects retain their original patina; they have not been polished to preserve their historical charm. Small signs of wear that attest to their authenticity.
