Hendrik Johannes Slijper trained as a drawing teacher. He also studied, among others, with Piet van Wijngaerdt and at the Rijksacademie. Slijper painted, drew, and watercolored in a figurative-impressionist style, creating still lifes, landscapes, and portraits. He also illustrated books, usually with biological subjects. Henrik Slijper was, among others, a member of Arti et Amicitiae and the Gooise Schildersvereniging Laren.
