Description from the seller
TOMATES is a 70x100 cm painting by contemporary artist Ernest García. In this vibrant contemporary still life, the artist proposes a modern reinterpretation of the traditional still life. A white canvas of black lines, austere and elegant, is filled to the edge with intensely glossy red tomatoes. The expressive brushstrokes and the touches of white light that accentuate the surface of the fruits evoke their freshness, their weight, and their vitality. Two tomatoes rest on the table, widening the visual field and reinforcing the sense of restrained movement.
The background, composed of vertical stripes in deep green and sky blue, introduces a decorative pattern that dialogues with the central composition and adds a graphic dimension to the whole. This backdrop not only encloses the pictorial space but also acts as a chromatic counterpoint, intensifying the prominence of the tomatoes and generating a harmonious visual tension.
The work conveys a clean, fresh aesthetic, with echoes of pop art and modern design, where the choice of palette, the geometry of the bowl, and the theatricality of light play an essential role. Beyond its apparent simplicity, it is a piece charged with intention: an exaltation of the everyday, of the organic, of the essential.
“Tomatoes” is part of a series of compositions that explore the plastic richness of common objects, transforming them into protagonists of poetic, almost cinematic scenes. It is a work that, due to its visual impact and accessible language, can fit both contemporary spaces and more classical contexts, always adding color, character, and vitality.
