Rien - XXL is a unique original work by Ralf Altrieth, created in 2020 in mixed media (oil and acrylic on canvas), measuring 178 x 149 cm, signed on the back, in excellent condition, produced in France and sold directly by the artist.
Description from the seller
This painting is part of a short series created in 2020, a period when dark tones become dominant.
Titled 'Rien', it is a unique work, directly from the artist's studio. Fully hand-painted in oil and acrylic on high-quality canvas, it is signed on the back and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. In very good condition.
The photos are taken in natural light, as faithfully as possible to the real colors. The staged visuals allow appreciation of the painting's dimensions and physical presence. The proportions are preserved.
With its monumental format of 178 x 149 cm, the painting exerts an intense, almost nocturnal presence. On a deep background made up of multiple layers of dark and vibrant colors, a figure appears, drawn with a clear and instinctive gesture.
The color overlays — blues, reds, greens and blacks — create a dense depth, pierced by bright fragments. At such scale, the work nearly behaves like an apparition: the figure seems to emerge from the darkness and immediately captures the eye.
From a distance, the composition imposes a strong and mysterious presence. Upon closer approach, the surface reveals a richness of gestures, transparencies and painterly traces that give the canvas a constant vibration.
Realized without a prior sketch, the composition is built in the gesture, through successive adjustments, until reaching a “rightness”: a balance between instinctive energy and mastered structure. This research gives the work a living energy and a declared presence.
German painter living in the south of France, trained from adolescence and then at the Academy of Fine Arts of Nürtingen (Germany) at the end of the 1980s, Ralf Altrieth has exhibited for over thirty years in France and Germany, notably at MAC Paris, the Théo de Seine gallery (Paris), and the Hartmut Beck gallery (Erlangen). His works are today in private collections around the world.
