Artist biography

Antoni Mut Torroja is a great painter, born in Barcelona in 1921, he studied at the School of Fine Arts and first exhibited in 1940 at the Faïence Català, and in 1947 he moved to Paris where, while attending Fine Arts, he worked for Galerie Hervè in Montmartre. In this period he held exhibitions in Reims, Lyon, Toulouse, Paris, Spa, Antwerp, and Brussels, as well as murals in Paris and Nice. There he achieved great notoriety.

In 1952 he returns to Barcelona and exhibits at Grifé y Escoda.

He often used anonymous signatures depending on the painting style or motifs he used in his works (A. Mut, Antoni Mut, Mut Torroja, T. Bassols) with some of those subjects, for example, the collection of clowns and beggars through which he sought to denounce the miseries and frailties of that era. Also gaining a certain renown with landscapes and seascapes. He died in 1990.
