Waterman Ideal 52 fountain pen in celluloid with a gold-plated cap band, made in the United States in the mid‑20th century, in good used condition and in working order, with a 14K Waterman nib, 13.6 cm long and 1.1 cm in diameter.
Description from the seller
A0000001982
An example in very good overall condition, especially notable given that it is a Waterman 52 in Ripple Red ebonite, a material that often shows discoloration or loss of color over time.
The red-veined ebony wood retains a deep, uniform color, with excellent definition of the characteristic black wavy pattern of the model. No severe color fading, greenish oxidation, or notable loss of pigmentation is evident, something especially valued in this finish. The surface maintains a natural gloss after a light professional polish, showing only minor superficial marks typical of use and age, with no cracks, fissures, or visible repairs.
The cap shows very good structural integrity, with a firm screw/thread and secure closure. The golden ring retains a good plating, with very light wear commensurate with its more than 90 years of age.
The "IDEAL" ball-end clip is straight, firm, and functional, with legible engraving and slight wear in the areas of greatest contact. It shows no play or deformations.
The seat area of the shorts shows the marking “52”, visible and consistent with the model.
The original Waterman Ideal 14K nib preserves sharp engravings and excellent alignment of the nib tines. No cracks or structural deformations are observed. It retains good elasticity and response, emblematic of this model. The ebonite feed is intact, with no cracks or loss of material.
The lever-loading system is functioning properly. The lever has good tension and a proper return. (If it has been restored: the bag has been replaced recently and is ready for immediate use.)
It will be sent in a courtesy box for its proper preservation.
Good auction!
