EXTRA INFO ARTIST:
Adi Steurbaut is a Belgian artist, born on July 24, 1938, in Ronse. He studied scientific humanities at the Sint-Antoniuscollege in Ronse and earned the degree of civil engineer-architect from Ghent University. In 1969 he established himself as an independent architect and worked until 1976 as a part-time assistant at Ghent University. Between 1980 and 1984 he pursued sculpture training at the Academy in Ghent.
As a self-taught painter, Steurbaut drew inspiration from the art movement De Stijl and artists such as Piet Mondrian. He describes himself as a retro-constructivist and draws inspiration from the art of the 1920s. His work is characterized by the use of primary colors and shapes such as squares, circles, and triangles. An abstract film from 1924, 'Symphonie diagonale' by Viking Eggeling, served as an inexhaustible source of inspiration for him.
Steurbaut is known for his sunny works, often depicted from an open window, with village views and seascapes. His paintings are built from bright, flat, and clearly delineated blocks of color, giving an optimistic and lively impression.
His work has been offered at auction several times, with prices varying depending on the size and medium of the artwork.
