Pinchas Shaar, born as Pinchas Szwarc in 1923 in Łódź, Poland, was a Jewish-Polish artist known for his paintings and illustrations with Jewish themes. At the age of 16, in 1939, he was captured and spent five years in a concentration camp near his birthplace. After World War II he moved to Munich, where he worked as a theatre artist and studied at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste München. Later he continued his studies in Paris at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière and the École des Beaux-Arts.

In 1956 Shaar emigrated to Israel, where he settled in Tel Aviv. His work focused mainly on Jewish themes, and he became known as an illustrator of Hebrew literature. Shaar's style is characterized by figurative depictions that often reflect Jewish culture and traditions.

His work has been exhibited in several countries and is part of both private and public collections. In 2023, the Castel Museum dedicated an exhibition to Shaar, presenting works that had never before been shown.

Pinchas Shaar died in 1996. His legacy continues to live on in his artworks, which provide a deep insight into the Jewish experience and culture.
