Platter - Porcelain - "Sanyang Kaitai" dish

Fine Chinese Famille Rose Footed Dish – "Sanyang Kaitai" Motif. An exceptionally attractive and well-preserved Chinese Famille Rose porcelain footed dish, dating to the second half of the 20th century. This piece features a distinct, lobed "cloud-shape" or quatrefoil rim, elevated by a sturdy, high foot rim. The interior is vibrantly hand-painted with a joyful scene of three young boys (acolytes) playing in a garden landscape with two goats. This specific imagery represents the auspicious Chinese idiom "Sanyang Kaitai" (三阳开泰), which symbolizes the arrival of spring and a wish for good fortune and prosperity. The central scene is framed by a rich, cobalt-blue ground border embellished with intricate "scroll and flower" (karakusa) patterns in the famille rose palette. The underside is decorated with iron-red stylized bats or calligraphic symbols, further enhancing the piece's themes of luck and longevity. Key Features Auspicious Iconography: Features the "Three Goats/Suns" motif, traditionally associated with new beginnings and the New Year. Artistry: Hand-painted enamels with a glossy, vibrant finish and fine line work on the figures’ robes and the "Scholar’s Rock" in the background. Mark: The base features a four-character iron-red apocryphal mark: "Tongzhi Nian Zhi" (同治年製), reflecting the style of the Tongzhi period (1862–1874). Condition: Excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or visible restoration. Length: 28 cm Width: 23 cm Height: 6 cm This dish is a wonderful example of 20th-century craftsmanship, successfully capturing the whimsy and color of late Qing dynasty porcelain. Its large size and unusual lobed shape make it a standout decorative centerpiece or a fine addition to a collection of Asian art. Your item will be carefully packaged and shipped with full track and trace for your peace of mind; local pickup is also warmly welcomed in Ekeren (Antwerp), Belgium.
