Description from the seller
Beautiful large seascape by Joop van Leeuwen
The work is beautifully handmade and framed.
There was an overview exhibition of Joop van Leeuwen last July at Galerie Gabriels on Noordeinde in The Hague.
A book of his work has also been published.
From a very early age, his drawings and “oil paintings” stood out in a positive way. In his school years he almost daily visited the famous Hague museums (the Mauritshuis and the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag). He copied well-known masters there by painting and drawing. Joop studied at the Royal Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague (1981-1984). During his academy years, Van Leeuwen painted and exhibited independently. Well-known art dealers in The Hague regularly bought his works even then. It is also in this period that Van Leeuwen created his first impressionist seascapes. His seascapes, wintry scenes and cityscapes were in high demand. Renowned galleries sold his works. He served as an adviser to well-known collectors and his works were auctioned by Christie’s and Sotheby’s.
He has received a commission from the Rockart museum, based in Hoek van Holland, to paint portraits of a number of well-known national artists. This museum depicts the history of Dutch pop music from around 1950 to the present. For this, Joop van Leeuwen creates distinctive portraits of about a dozen famous pop stars. These include, among others, Anouk, Andy Tielman, Herman Brood, Boudewijn de Groot and André Hazes, etc. His beach scenes remain very popular.
The painting is carefully packed and sent by registered mail.
