Joachim Palm (born 1936) is a German graphic artist and etcher, who stood out in particular for architecturally influenced city views. He studied at the art academies in Berlin and Munich and early developed an autonomous, structure-focused visual language. Since 1964 Palm has regularly exhibited in museums, galleries, and art associations.
His works are characterized by a precise mastery of intaglio techniques as well as by a dense, linear compression of architectural forms. Monumental buildings and urban spaces are not reproduced in Palm's work as mere documentation, but interpreted as rhythmically structured structures. The combination of nuanced hatching, bold contrasts, and atmospheric density gives his prints a distinctive graphic handwriting.
In the years 1970/71, Palm was a fellow of the Villa Massimo in Rome. In 1980 he received a professorship at the University of Applied Sciences Augsburg. After the political transition, he regularly visited his hometown of Potsdam, which continues to be an important reference point for his artistic work.
