From 1969 to 1992, Wilding was a professor at the Hochschule für bildende Künste in Hamburg. His works are characterized by three-dimensional structures, motion effects, and visual irritations, and are among the iconic positions of constructive-concrete art of the postwar period.
Ludwig Wilding is represented in major museums, including the Museum of Modern Art (New York), the Tate Modern (London), the Centre Pompidou (Paris), the Städel Museum (Frankfurt am Main) and the Museum Ludwig (Cologne). His participation in the legendary MoMA exhibition The Responsive Eye (1965) underscores his international significance.
