Peter Fetthauer (born February 14, 1944 in Wilhelmshaven) is a Hamburg-based artist who works as a painter, draftsman, graphic artist and sculptor, and often appears under the signature name 'PEFE'. He became particularly well known for woodcuts and wooden sculptures, in which he engages intensively with figuration.
Fetthauer studied from 1963 to 1967 at the Werkkunstschule Hamburg (today the Department of Design), Free Graphic (including studies with Gisela Bührmann). In addition to his own artistic work, his craftsmanship in printmaking is also noteworthy: he worked as a printer, among others, for Horst Janssen, Paul Wunderlich, Marino Marini, and Rolf Nesch; for Paul Wunderlich he printed exclusively drypoint etchings.
Peter Fetthauer lives and works in Hamburg and is a member of the XYLON Woodcutters' Association. His body of work includes paintings, drawings, prints (including etchings and lithographs) as well as sculptures (wood, stone, and steel).
