Description from the seller
Paul Van Hoeydonck (1925–2025) - s.t.
1978
Screen print in black on heavy art paper.
54.5 × 72.5 cm
Edition: E.C. F/O (trade proof / not for sale)
Publication: Art on Campus – Art Portfolio 1
This intriguing silkscreen from 1978 presents a powerful, almost surreal composition in which a female profile is combined with a monumental eye motif. Van Hoeydonck plays with scale, perspective, and detail: the meticulous line work and the finely built hatchings contrast with solid black areas. The work exudes a mood of introspection and cosmic symbolism, characteristic of the visionary dimension within his oeuvre.
Paul Van Hoeydonck is internationally known, among other things for his iconic sculpture Fallen Astronaut (1971), placed on the Moon during the Apollo 15 mission. His versatile practice encompasses painting, sculpture, and graphics, often with a strong fascination for space, humanity, and technology. This existential and cosmic theme is also evident in his graphic work.
This sheet is part of the portfolio “Kunst op de Campus – Kunstmap 1” (1978), a high-quality Belgian graphic edition. It concerns a copy marked E.C. F/O (épreuve de commerce / hors commerce), which indicates a limited distribution outside the regular numbered edition and increases its collectible value.
Signed in pencil in the lower-left corner: “P. Van Hoeydonck” and marked “E.C. F/O”.
Condition: In good condition. Front in very good condition; on the back, light, even discoloration consistent with age. No cracks or restorations visible.
An expressive and substantively strong graphic publication by an internationally renowned Belgian artist, of interest to collectors of postwar figurative and conceptual graphic art.
