Description from the seller
Guy Vandenbranden (1926–2014) - Composition
1978
Color screen print on heavy art paper
72.5 × 54.5 cm
Edition: E.C. F/O (trade proof / not for sale)
Publication: Art on Campus – Art Portfolio 1
This monumental screen print from 1978 is a powerful example of Guy Vandenbranden's geometric-constructivist visual language. The composition is built around a tilted square (diamond shape) in which a tight grid is subtly interrupted by contrasting color accents in yellow and off-white. The interplay of matte black, silver-gray, and bright color fields creates a balanced tension between order, rhythm, and optical dynamism.
Vandenbranden belongs to the core figures of Belgian geometric abstraction and was active within international networks of concrete and constructivist art. His oeuvre aligns with the tradition of Art Abstrait and postwar modernism, with a strong emphasis on mathematical structure, balance, and refined color harmony.
This page was issued within the framework of the portfolio “Kunst op de Campus – Kunstmap 1” (1978), a high-quality Belgian graphic publication featuring works by prominent artists. It is a copy marked E.C. F/O (épreuve de commerce / hors commerce), which indicates a limited distribution beyond the regular numbered edition and strengthens the collectability value.
Lower right, signed in pencil “guy vandenbranden” and marked “E.C. F/O”.
Condition: In good condition. Paper and colors bright; no tears or visible restorations. Light, even aging appropriate to the age.
A large-format and notable graphic publication by a key artist within Belgian postwar abstraction — appealing to collectors of Constructivist and geometric graphics.
