This statue is a bronze copy of the original large statue in Noordwijk aan Zee.
Lifeboat captain D. van den Berg and his daughter posed for this image.
The original statue on Queen Wilhelmina Boulevard (Noordwijk aan Zee) was commissioned by the municipality of Noordwijk and created by Charlotte D. Baroness van Pallandt, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Royal North- and South-Holland Rescue Society in 1974, as a tribute to the lifeguards.
Disclosed on 25 September 1976 by the widow of Herman Vink, who on 24 November 1919, together with Jan Cramer and Leendert Hellenberg, lost their lives during the grounding of the KW47 while performing a rescue operation.
