Francesco Messina (1900–1995), Allegoria della Giustizia, a patinated bronze sculpture by Ventura Arte, edition 109/150, 50 cm high, 16 cm wide, 15 cm deep, 8 kg, signed on the plate, Italy, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Bronze sculpture cast using lost-wax technique on a wooden base, titled "Danzatrice" (Dancer), a work by Italian artist Francesco Messina (1900-1995), one of the most significant sculptors of 20th-century Italy, depicting one of his most classic figures: a ballerina standing with arms crossed in front and the head turned in profile. For Messina, dance embodied one of the greatest expressions of feminine beauty, capable of deifying the figure of woman, exalting the harmony and grace of the forms. The sways of the skirt and the disheveled hairstyle, gathered on the head in a disorderly manner, then come to animate the material and enhance the play of depth and chiaroscuro impressed by Messina in this charming composition. The work dates to a period between the early 1960s and the early 1970s. The artist’s authentication on the photo and a certificate of authenticity from the Istituto Seledi are attached. The lot will be carefully packed and shipped with affiliated couriers. For this lot, shipments outside the European Community are not made.
