Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
A vintage 20th‑century, hand‑blown glass fishing float set from Japan, comprising seven pieces in spherical and two cylinder types, colors including aqua, blue‑green, green, deep green and light amber, with spherical diameters about 5.5–8.5 cm and cylinder lengths about 12–15 cm, in good condition with minor aging signs.
Description from the seller
This is a carefully curated set of 7 authentic Japanese hand-blown glass fishing floats, distinguished by its harmonious coastal colour palette and notable form variations.
The lot combines classic spherical floats with two cylinder-type (rolling-pin style) examples:
• One smaller-than-standard cylinder float
• One cylinder float with a rarer, less common proportion and profile
This variation in scale and form enhances the collector appeal of the set and gives it strong visual character as a display ensemble.
Japanese glass fishing floats began production in the early 1900s as a durable alternative to wooden and cork floats. By the 1930s–1960s, hand-blown examples such as these were widely used in working fisheries across the Pacific.
Each float in this set was individually mouth-blown, resulting in natural variations including trapped air bubbles, flowing glass textures, tool marks, and subtle asymmetry. These characteristics are authentic hallmarks of genuine working floats and clearly distinguish them from later decorative reproductions.
Several floats display visible historical markings, as shown in the photographs. Marked examples are increasingly scarce and contribute additional historical and collector significance to the lot.
